Ramzan or
Ramadan is the most significant festival for any Muslim.
The word Ramadan is derived from the term ‘Ramdh’, which
means ‘burning of the feet from heat’. Ramzan, the ninth
month of the Islamic calendar, begins after the crescent
moon has been sighted. Fasting, prayers, abstinence and
stringent rules mark the month long practice. Streets have
a festive look after nightfall. That is the time when
people break the fast - IFTAR with short meal of fruits
etc and then offer special prayers till late mid night.
The fast resumes the next morning. An important aspect of
Eid is the charity, which all the Muslims are expected to
extend to the needy. After completion of month long
fasting, Eid-Ul-Fitr is celebrated by wishing people,
greeting relatives & friends and exchanging gifts and
sweets.
